How Often Should You Wash Your Hair?

Unfortunately, there’s no right or wrong answer for this. It all depends on personal experience and what works best for your needs. Some may like to wash their hair every day and others may do it once or twice a week. Of course, prolonging the time between a wash can lead to more scalp problems, especially if you’re spritzing some dry-shampoo on the skip days. Read on to see how often you should wash your hair according to your hair type.

Fine Hair

Often fine hair turns limp and greasy quicker so it might be best to wash your hair every day or every other day. We suggest using a volumizing or thickening shampoo that will add body to the hair without weighing it down. Remember to use conditioner on the ends only to avoid unnecessary weight on the rest of your strands.

Thick Hair

For thicker hair, we suggest washing it every two or three days. To nourish the ends of your hair, it’s recommended that you frequently brush your hair to distribute the oils from your scalp to the ends of your hair. Nourishing shampoos are best for thicker hair.

Oily Hair

Things get tricky with greasy hair. Over washing your hair could cause even more problems like overproduction of sebum to compensate for continually stripping oils with an everyday wash. It’s best to clean every other day when you have oily hair. Try clarifying shampoos that contain ingredients like tea tree oil or eucalyptus.

Color-Treated Hair

Since shampooing your hair can cause colored hair to fade, it’s crucial to choose products that are sulfate-free. It’s probably best to avoid washing every day, but shampoo as often as you see fit. Look for ingredients like keratin or argan oil which will help to nourish and rebuild hair that may be damaged from coloring.

Curly Hair

The less often you wash, the better. Lucky you! The reason for this is because the oils from the root of your hair don’t have enough time to travel down to the ends if you wash too frequently. Shampoos with keratin and argan oil or any other moisturizing properties are great for curly hair.

Of course, you know your hair and what works best for it. So, if you find a routine that works, then stick to it. What tips do you know of that have helped your hair? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
